Acorn Street Beacon Hill Proposal | Shane & Margarita

Updated: Apr 8

Proposals are one of the most exciting things to photograph. Not only because it is a once in a lifetime moment, but because it's so special and fun to photograph the true elation, the REAL and unabashed joy!! So when Shane reached out to me in May sharing his proposal plans with me, I was so psyched.

"Hi Tamara!

My wonderful girlfriend Margarita and I have been together for 3 years with our anniversary on June 15th. This year we decided to take a trip to Boston to to celebrate and I was planning on proposing. We’re both active duty military stationed in North Dakota, so I wanted to make the experience memorable for her. I am flexible for any date between June 13-15 and was ideally looking at Acorn St or the Boston Public Garden as the proposal site.

All the best,

Shane"

If you're familiar with Acorn street, you know it's one of the most photographed streets in the country, and a very popular spot in Beacon Hill. It is a quintessential old Boston street; quaint narrow alley of row houses on a cobblestone lined street, with a Betsy Ross American flag to boot. And while it's beautiful and touristy, it's also a residential location. As in, there are real people in the home you're outside of taking a photo. So sometimes with all the tourism, the home owners can get frustrated. So I urge you that if you visit this street, to be extremely respectful of the tenants and try to be quiet.

With this in mind, I shared with Shane that if he wanted to propose there that we go in the morning, mid-week with the hopes that there wouldn't be any tourists. And man did we luck out! We were literally the only people there that morning, aside from a lone car in the middle of the alley. But the most important thing is that they had a private moment for a life changing question.

As with any proposal, we made a plan. I asked Shane to tell Margarita that Acorn street is a popular street in Boston to photograph so that she wouldn't be surprised when she saw me standing there with a camera. They had an uber drop them off to not worry about parking, and when they arrived they took a quick selfie before Shane began his proposal. He got down on one knee to present the most beautiful ring, and Margarita said YES!!!

After the initial OMMGGGG moment and a few photo at Acorn Street, we headed to the Boston Public Garden which is just a few blocks away for more engagement photos before they left to go to a celebratory brunch!

I'm so honored Shane chose me to photograph their day, and I'm even more elated and honored that I'll also be photographing their wedding in January of 2022!

Taking a selfie at Acorn Street - she has no idea she's about to be proposed to!
