Berkshires Proposal | Ashwin + Smrithi

Berkshires Proposal & Engagement Photos at Ruins at Sassafras in the Hudson Valley

Berkshires engagement session at ruins at sassafras

The Ruins at Sassafras is a beautiful property just over the New York border from Massachusetts in the upper Hudson Valley between the Berkshire and Taconic Mountains. It was actually a former Shaker settlement and holds so many memories throughout the property. I encourage you to go the Sassfras website to learn all about the history.

The property is so gorgeous that features sweeping mountain views, the ruins, a waterfall with little bridge, pond, hiking trails, and so much more. The Sassafras Museum was the perfect place for Ashwin's surprise proposal to his girlfriend Smrithi!

Ashwin and Smrithi's Proposal Story

Smrithi was on a weekend trip to the Berkshires with her friends and for their last morning there her friends planned a "private tour" to the museum (or so she thought!). Shortly after arriving, the "tour guide" led Smrithi to the back terrace under the guise that it's a Shaker tradition to see the view by yourself. Ashwin was waiting there with a beautiful setup equipped with a blanket that said "Smrithi will you marry me?" along with a dozen roses and a lit fire to warm up the chilly March air. Sooo cute!

The Ruins at Sassafras Engagement Photos

After he proposed we went back into the Stone House to have a champagne toast with their friends and warm up before exploring the property for their ruins at sassafras engagement photos. I had such a great time wandering around the property with them and photographing their love! We obviously had to get a bunch of photos with the view and then visited the ruins as well as the frozen pond. They even have two rope swings out back which is so adorable. They're both so joyful and it was a pleasure to witness their joy on such an exciting day. I wish them nothing but the best!!

I had the pleasure of meeting Carol, one of the owners of the Ruins at Sassafras Museum, and she is one of the most kind people I've ever met! She took so much care of Ashwin and Smrithi and went above and beyond to make everyone feel so comfortable! Although we visited when it was still snowy I already can't wait to visit again during the warmer months to see the property in it's full glory! If you're considering a Ruins at Sassfras engagement (or a Ruins at Sassfras wedding) it's definitely a must visit!!
