South End Boston Proposal | Leah & Kara

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

Leah & Kara met on a dating app, as all modern love stories begin! Kara was actually supposed to be moving away from Boston, but once her and Leah met and fell in love, everything changed. They fell in love fast and soon enough talks of getting engaged started to be a regular topic. They talked about how when the day came, they each wanted to have a ring to give to the other.

So when Kara picked out a ring for Leah and gave it to her sister for safe keeping, Leah secretly purchased a ring for Kara earlier than expected. Although the fact that they would be getting engaged wasn't a surprise, the day that Leah proposed (and had both rings so they could exchange), it caught Kara totally off guard!

When Leah reached out to me sharing that she wanting to propose, she knew exactly where she wanted to do it: at the place they met and fell in love in Boston's South End, their home.

From Leah: "We lived on [A] street at the time and we were fixing up our apartment on [B] street, a couple blocks away. I suggested we should grab a game that we played on one of first dates, that was back in the [B] street apartment, on our way to our birthday picnic on the Esplanade. I had both of the rings hidden in the game box. So when we came back out from our apartment on [B] street I was able to surprise her with a proposal on the same street where we fell in love, in the same spot where we would give our good bye kisses in the beginning of our relationship, and where Kara would drop off coffee and pastries as little surprises for me."

I was hiding on the street behind a car so that when they came out of the apartment, I was ready for when Leah opened the card game box and gave Kara the best birthday present of her life!!!!

It was so sweet - they each had the speeches already drafted on their phones, so when Leah proposed first, Kara was able to fully reciprocate and propose to her right back.

Afterwards, instead of heading to the Esplanade like they had planned, we headed back to their [A] street home in the south end to take some photos on the front stoop of their brownstone and private roof deck with the most amazing view of Boston. It was the perfect time of day when the sun sets and shares it's gorgeous golden light. They had just decorated their roof deck with little lights and their pride flag too, so it was the absolute perfect place for some more engagement photos.

These two are the sweetest, most in love best friends on the planet, and I feel so incredibly lucky to have photographed this monumental moment in their lives. They'll be getting married this July and I have no doubt their wedding will be filled with so much love and intention.
