A Wedding Photographers Guide to Your Tupper Manor Wedding

Updated: Apr 30

Tupper Manor at Endicott College is one of the most sought-after venues on Boston's North Shore. This waterfront mansion is located just 20 miles north of Boston in Beverly, MA, and has something to offer everyone. If you dream of a wedding that exudes timeless elegance and charm, this mansion is the perfect spot. Let's take a photo tour of this enchanting venue and see why it is the perfect backdrop to your wedding day.

About Tupper Manor

When you arrive at Tupper Manor you are greeted with perfectly manicured grounds, a magnificent fountain, and a grand front entrance. The mansion built in 1901 is perfect at any time of year. Whether you are planning for a large guest list or a more intimate affair, this venue offers many flexible indoor and outdoor spaces to host your guests. Their exemplary culinary team will work with you to create a delicious menu for your event. The Wylie Inn on the property offers on-site accommodations for your family and friends which is SO nice so everyone can keep the party going without having to worry about driving! Plus, the Wylie Inn also has a large common area that brides can use for their HMU to get ready before entry is allowed at Tupper. Generally, entry into Tupper is allowed two hours before the ceremony start time.

As a photographer, Tupper Manor is one of my favorite venues to shoot at, not only because the venue staff is amazing and friendly, but because of all the different spaces that allow for gorgeous images. From the beach to the foyer, to the grand staircase - the options are endless!

Bridal Suite

First things first - when you gain access to the venue, you’ll probably head straight up to your bridal suite! The bridal suite on the second floor of the mansion is absolutely beautiful. It has large windows / french doors that let in tons of light which obv makes my photographer heart happy! It’s the perfect spot to put your dress on and sip champagne while you wait for your first look. Even better, you can peek out the windows to see the groomsmen arriving while still staying hidden! Outside of the bridal suite is the main landing on the second floor where your bridal party can keep all their belongings so the bridal suite doesn’t get messy with bags and such. There are a few other rooms off of this main landing that you can choose to add on to your day like if you want a room to eat lunch, or if you just have a super big wedding party and want more rooms to change!

For bridal portraits (+ some dress detail photos), I love to wander around the venue and take some photos in the foyer, conservatory, and back steps.

Billiards Room

The billiards room operates as a second getting-ready spot for the groom / second partner. It’s pretty rare for a venue to have two getting-ready suites, so this is a huge plus for Tupper! The space is on the first floor, right off of the foyer, and has dark wood paneling and a pool table which is not only great for moodier photos but awesome to actually calm nerves by playing a round of pool. The billiards room (and connected bar / library) is also used as a holding area for the wedding party immediately after the ceremony to drink some champagne and have some appetizers before portraits begin. It is also the perfect spot to sneak away from your reception if you need some alone time in a quiet spot! I loooooove the way the black and white photos look in this room!

Grand Staircase + Foyer

The grand staircase which leads into the spacious foyer is one of my favorite first-look locations! It is truly a grand moment as you descend the stairs to see your future partner waiting for you at the bottom of the steps. Everything about the foyer is beautiful. With floor-to-ceiling windows, it has great light not only for a first look but some couple’s portraits and bridal portraits as well. The big arched doorways donned with gold accents and white wood paneling really elevate the space to transport you back in time with its elegant and charming feel. It’s so great to have this space whether you’re getting married in the summer or winter, whether it’s sunny outside or raining.

Wedding Portraits at Tupper Manor

Aside from the beautiful interior, the outside of Tupper Manor is just as gorgeous!! Oftentimes the front of the mansion is used for wedding party and family portraits. The tall white columns, floor to ceiling windows, and urns with greenery really make for a gorgeous backdrop.

Around back there are steps leading up to the conservatory that make for an awesome spot to get photos if you’re craving some editorial-type photos with wedding party on different levels, or to show off your gorgeous train on the wedding dress! Nothing better than a cascading train, amiright? There is even a private trail behind the venue that leads right to the beach. The beach is private so it’s never really busy (hooray for less photoshopping) and it’s surrounded by tall grass and trees to give a super northeast beachy feel. This trail that gets you there lets in THE MOST GORGEOUS LIGHT!!! I’m obsessed with the colors when you enter the trail, and the silhouette black and white photos when you exit the trail. Check out what I mean with these photos below!

Ceremony Locations at Tupper Manor

Whether you are planning an indoor ceremony in the wintertime or an outdoor ceremony on the front lawn by the fountain, it is bound to be beautiful. The manicured lawn provides ample space to say “I do” in the sunshine. There is a second-floor balcony on the mansion which allows for a really cool ‘bird's eye view’ perspective of the bride going down the aisle from behind. The indoor ceremony space is in the ballroom which has a grand fireplace and a stunning chandelier. Since one side of the ballroom is attached to the conservatory, there is still natural light flowing into the space, although I usually still use flash to make the images a little brighter! The location you choose definitely depends on your vibe, but no matter where you choose to get married - it will be gorgeous!

Grand Ballroom & Conservatory at Tupper Manor

The ballroom and conservatory are the perfect places for a night of speeches, dinner, and dancing. The foyer welcomes guests into your reception with a beautiful welcome sign, escort cards, or even a unique flower wall as a photo op! The foyer leads into the ballroom, where your introductions, first dances, cake cutting, and dance party will happen. The ballroom is in the middle of the mansion, so on the other side is the conservatory. I personally think The conservatory is THE most stunning spot of the venue. Floor-to-ceiling windows are on two sides of the room with an octagonal layout that provides plenty of space for a plated dinner. Aside from dinner, this is also where the speeches take place!.. Tables and chairs are included from the venue, but ask about upgrading to the gold chairs! I really think it makes a big difference and elevates the whole party! There are two bars located in the libraries on either side of the ballroom, which is nice for large weddings so no one is waiting in line. Plus, they’re also in dark paneled rooms (like the billiards room) that really provides a swanky, upscale vibe.
