I'm excited to show you the gorgeousness that is Ashlee and Steven's engagement session at the Rhode Island Sand Dunes in West Greenwich, RI!! These two are so stinkin cute together and I adored photographing their evening.
I asked Ashlee what her ideal engagement session would be like, and he had a pretty clear vision! From the engagement session questionnaire I provided, she shared: "We'd like to go to the Sand Dunes in Rhode Island. We are aiming for a casual ambiance with jeans/sundress and shoeless. We are also thinking of a picnic/wine setting with some candid photos. The main goal is to have these photos look like they are not completely staged and show our love for each other."
DING DING DING. Barefoot and candid? I'm sold! My favorite sessions, and what I strive to capture, is an effortless joy and love between a couple. I'm all about those moments where you can see genuine laughter and affection - not just a fake pose. I love how easy it was for them to make each other laugh and the comfortability and friendship between them was evident. They were so fun to photograph and I mean, they're totally gorgeous right? One lucky photographer over heeaaaa.
The Sand Dunes in West Greenwich are awesome because the location provides a sandy terrain without being at the beach. Because of this, there are other variations in photo locations like the dunes themselves, the tree-lined path to get to the sand dune field, AND there's no glare off the water when the sun sets. Woot! Since it surrounded by forest, it isn't a real desert, but instead is remnants leftover by a former rock quarry. The sand isn't the soft sand you'd find at the beach either - it's a little more course and rough. So while it can be fun to hike the dunes in the summer, I do recommend proper footwear! I'm sure after Ashlee & Steven's barefoot photos their footsies were a little tender.
But I am literally obsessed with the golden hour engagement photos we got - the light at the sand dunes was absolutely perfect!! It's the kind of light you cross your fingers for so I'm elated!
