Wedding Veil Inspiration

Updated: Apr 8, 2023

Do you like veils? Do you plan to have one for your wedding? I LOVE PHOTOGRAPHING THEM!!!

Veils can range in length from really long veils that drag behind you to ones that end just below your shoulder. They can be tulle, lace, netting, etc and can be intricately designed, have pearls added, or very simple one material! Some match wedding dresses perfectly with the white / ivory shade, or they might stand out on their own right. No matter the choice, an addition of a veil can elevate your wedding photos a ton!

Veils can add so much movement and life to an image. There's so many different ways to incorporate a veil into wedding photos. You can be under the veil with and without me, have the veil swooping in front of you, it can be caught in the wind / trailing behind you, or just displayed all pretty!! Make sure you scroll to the end to see me with one of my bride's veils haha.

Let's start with the *under the veil moment* - one of my faves!

It’s just as it sounds : you and your hubby/wife get under the veil… with me!

This is a pretty popular photo you can achieve with a longer veil like chapel or cathedral length. The longer it is, the better the photos as I can get. When a veil is longer, we have more fabric to work with so I can have some distance from you to create more sense of intimacy and have that beautiful billowy fabric in front of your faces for some depth.

It doesn't only have to be for couple's though. I absolutely LOVE this bridal portrait of Amanda under the veil!! It's both strong and sexy and adds a little bit of mystery.

It can be kind of silly in the moment though - here's a fun behind the scenes photo from Tatum & Colin's wedding. Bridesmaids assist for the win!!

Let's transition under the veil but without me under it with you!

This adds a little bit more intimacy like the couple is in their own little world. I don't do this pose very often as I prefer other veil moments, but I think this can still be so beautiful!!

BUUUUT it doesn't only have to be you and your boo under the veil... take it from Ingrid and her flower girl sharing this cute moment pre-ceremony!

Or you don't have to have anyone at all! I adore this photo of Lauren under her veil from her bridal shoot. It gives me like renaissance vibes I just love it so much.

Next up we have the good ole veil swoop!!

If during your couples portraits a little gust of wind comes… it’s probable that I’ll start squealing and adamantly suggest that I need to hold on to the end of your veil for it to fly!! I absolutely loooove when the wind makes a big billowy sail!!!

But if there’s no wind, thats ok! I’ll just flair our arms back and forth under my camera to create an illusion haha. I love how the veil swoop adds a little later between a couple and the camera and shows depth and movement!

While the majority of these photos is with my couples facing the camera, I love this one of Heather and Andrew walking away from me.

And then this one where the camera is beneath the swoop for a different perspective!

This is also a great way to include the veil if you have fingertip length veil that you can't quite get underneath for and under the veil shot. It's also such a great way to show off any detail of the veil like the lace at the ends!!

But again, you don't need a partner for this shot and you can have a beautiful bridal portrait all by yourself!

I polled my Instagram followers, and the consensus across the board was in favor for the swoop over being under the veil!

Now for an all time fave: a veil blowing in the wind *heart eyes*

I don't know what it is about a veil in the wind, but it's just begging to be turned black and white. I love that B&W photos lets you focus more on the emotion of an image rather than the scenery.... and man does a veil in the wind convey emotion!!

I mean... I don't even have to say anything else I think the photos say enough!! Especially this next photo hahaha. The wind was a LITTLE too intense this day!! Talk about a picture saying a thousand words #windyAF.

Timeless photo: a calm, beautifully displayed veil.

These photos are probably what you think of when you think of a wedding photo with a veil! A perfectly displayed train and veil combo that shows off all the intricacies of the design.

While I def aim to capture these at every wedding, the majority of couples who work with me like more movement and storytelling and less standing still posing, so once these are snapped, we're walking, flirting, and twirling!

OK NOW LASTLY is a non-traditional "veil*...

Like these bomb-ass veil sleeves on Alyssa!!!! Honestly her dress is THE most beautiful dress I have every photographed. I was speechless when I saw the whole look come together!!!

And what about this gorgeous pillbox hat that Cearabrooke borrowed from her mom who wore it in her wedding!! So chic.

Hopefully this gives you some great inspiration for either what veil to get or what kind of wedding photos you'd want!!! If you're still looking for a wedding photographer and are interested in learning my availability and pricing, I'd love to hear from you!
